What is GRE?

GRE or GRE Short is standardized test, the Graduate Record Examination measures Verbal, Mathematical and Analytical Writing skills. The test intends to aid Graduate Schools (and some business schools) assess the potential of the applicants for advanced study. Most universities in the US, while inviting applications from prospective students, ask for GRE® scores. The examination is entirely a Computer-based Test, and no two students get an identical set of questions. The test is scored on a maximum of 340. The GRE® Score alone cannot guarantee admission into a school – the test is only one of the major factors taken into consideration in the long process of an applicant getting admitted into a graduate school that he/she desires.   1. Reduced Test Duration: The test duration has been trimmed from under 4 hours to under 2 hours.
  2. Fewer Questions: The Verbal and Quantitative Reasoning sections have 46 fewer questions.
  3. No Scheduled Break: The 10-minute scheduled break is no longer part of the test.
  4. Faster Results: You’ll receive your test results sooner, within 8-10 days, compared to the previous 10-15 days.
  5. One Analytical Writing Task: The Analytical Writing section now includes only one essay task – Analyse the issue

Despite these changes, some elements of the GRE remain consistent:

  • Quantitative and Verbal sections continue to be section-adaptive.
  • Graduate and professional programs will still rely on GRE scores for admission.
  • The GRE fee remains at $205.
  • The scoring scale on the new GRE test remains the same.
